Coca-Cola Making an Alcoholic Soda in Japan

If you love Jack in your Coke, you may not have to mix the two anymore.

Coca-Cola is launching an "alcopop" in Japan, putting alcohol in the fizzy beverage, according to a BBC article.

Japan has a growing Chu-Hi culture, the name for canned sparkling flavored drinks mixed with a local spirit called shochu.  Each product typically has 3-8% of alcohol by volume.

"We haven't experimented in the low alcohol category before, but it's an example of how we continue to explore opportunities outside our core areas," said Jorge Garduno, Coca-Cola's Japan president.

He also states that he doubts it will be marketed outside of Japan.

The Chu-Hi drinks are most popular among females and are marketed as alternatives to beer with citrus flavors being the most popular.
